Fairway Consulting + Engineering, LLC (Fairway) was the lead Civil Engineer for the development of an approximately 12.5 acre site within incorporated Covington, Louisiana. The site was developed for the construction of eighty (80) single family homes and required an amendment to an existing Planned Unit Development (PUD). The project was unique in the sense that the majority of the civil infrastructure was previously designed and constructed and sat idle for 10+ years.
As part of the project, Fairway validated the design of all water, wastewater, and drainage utilities, performed assessments of the existing sewage collection system and pump station, and subsurface drainage piping. In order to comply with City Codes and Ordinances, Fairway performed a hydrologic study of the site to determine the amount of post development runoff for a 25 year storm event. The study considered the existing detention ponds and subsurface drainage piping. In order to comply with City requirements, the outfall control structures required modifications in order for post development runoff to equal pre-development runoff. Fairway also performed hydraulic modeling to validate the design of the subsurface drainage infrastructure for a 10-year storm event.
The project was completed under a very aggressive schedule and required close coordination and collaboration with local and state regulatory agencies. The project was completed on schedule and within budget and received unanimous approval by the City’s Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission.
